President does not have to come out to the streets to resolve
matters- Luthfee
Political Advisor of President’s Office, Ibrahim “Sandhaan” Luthfee has said that a President of a country does not have to come out to the streets to resolve matters faced by that country.
Luthfee said that the President does not have to come out to the streets and participate in protests to establish democracy. He said that if a President participates in such street activities which disrupt peace and stability of the country then democracy will never be successful.
“However, this is what we witnessed during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s regime. And this is one of the main reasons why he failed,” he said.
Luthfee said that the person who is elected as President should use his executive authority to resolve issues faced by the country through the respective institutions established to tackle such problems.
Noting why Nasheed could not rule for the five years he was elected for, Luthfee said that Nasheed failed to appoint capable leaders for political posts.
“He claimed that he will appoint capable people but however he appointed garage mechanics and such to the political posts he established. Mechanics are a very important people to the nation in their field but they are not capable for these political positions,” he said.
Luthfee also criticized Canada for trying to interfere in the internal matters of Maldives. He said that Canada does not have the right to interfere in our own internal matters.
