Heroes don’t flee away from trial- State Home Minister
State Home Minister Abdullah Mohamed has said that the heroes of a nation do not flee away from trial by giving baseless excuses.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, State Home Minister Abdullah Mohamed said that national heroes of our country’s past have shown that they are courageous and brave even in the face of persecution and they do not flee away from it.
The State Minister said that the true heroes are those who do not hesitate to face trial and have the capability to advocate in his own defence in the court room.
In view of the charges against former President Mohamed Nasheed, Abdullah Mohamed said that this is a golden opportunity for Nasheed to clear his name from these accusations.
“Why not he advocate on his own defence in the court room like he does in the streets? Why not he prove that the charges against him are false and he is free from those accusations? Hiding and fleeing away from it wont prove that he is innocent,” he said.
In view of the concern expressed by Canadian Foreign Minister regarding Nasheed’s trial, the State Minister Abdullah Mohamed said that the Canadian Foreign Minister’s statement on the matter will not be accepted in any constitutionally ruled country.
He said that Canadian Foreign Minister is trying to interfere in the internal issues of Maldives and to cause his undue influence in our affairs.
“This is a violation of the principles of democracy and international standards,” he said.
State Home Minister said that Maldives will implement the Maldivian constitution despite the statements of the foreign Minister of Canada.
