Supreme Court annuls Majlis
Committee’s decision on Hulhumale’ Court
The Supreme Court has annulled the decision of the Peoples’ Majlis Committee on Independent Institutions on the legitimacy of Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court.
In the court order of the Supreme Court stated that other institutes do not have the authority to issue verdicts regarding matters filed at the courts of law. The Supreme Court stated that state institutions do not have the right to cause undue influence on ongoing court proceedings and such verdicts issued by state institutions or any other institute regarding ongoing court cases are in itself void.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court stated that the court has the constitutional power to stop any influences or the likes from any institution or otherwise regarding ongoing court cases.
Meanwhile the Peoples’ Majlis Committee on Independent Institutions decided that the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court is illegitimate and has no legal authority of a court of law. The Majlis committee decided as such in a time when the case over the legality of Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court has been filed at the Supreme Court.
