MDP submits new motion for secret vote

Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP has for the second time proposed to the People’s Majlis a motion to establish a secret vote procedure to be followed when a vote is taken on an impeachment motion against the President or Vice President and termination of appointment of a member of any independent Institute after their first motion on the same issue has failed on Monday by a 39 against, 34 in favour, and 2 abstentions vote.

While the first secret vote motion was submitted by Baarashu MP Mohamed Shifaz, the new motion is proposed by Mafannu Dhekunu MP Mohamed Rasheed.

In the first attempt to go for a secret vote, all MDP Mps, all Jumhoory Party’s MPs and DRP’s Ali Azim voted in favour.

There is a impeachment motion already submitted to the Majlis by MDP which says it is very important to follow a secret vote procedure in these cases. MDP MPs were outraged when the first attempt was failed and they strongly accused the Government influenced MPs not to vote for a secret vote.
