President requests JP to submit a name for the post of Transport Minister

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has requested the Jumhooree Party (JP) to submit a name for the post of the Transport Minister.

The President made the request in reply to a letter by Jumhooree Party demanding the president to reinstate Dr. Shamheed as the Transport Minister before Sunday.

President Dr. Waheed stated in his letter to the Jumhooree Party that Dr. Shamheed was dismissed from the post for not complying with the regular procedures when making decisions and also for not consulting with the President and the cabinet before making decisions in the capacity as the Transport Minister. He stated that Dr. Shamheed was not dismissed due to a misunderstanding.

Assuring that the slot for the Transport Minister is still reserved for the Jumhooree Party, the President requested to submit a name for the ministerial post as soon as possible.

President Dr Waheed noted that 17 members of the Jumhooree Party are now sincerely serving in the national unity government.

In the letter sent to the President by the Jumhooree Party, the party stated that they will still submit the name of Dr. Shamheed for the post of the Transport Minister if the government does not clarify the actual fault of Dr. Shamheed. The party also demanded the President to reinstate Dr. Shamheed before Sunday and warned that they will have to reconsider remaining in the government coalition if the President fails to reinstate Dr. Shamheed as the Transport Minister.
