JP demands govt to reinstate Dr Shamheed before Sunday

Jumhooree Party (JP) has demanded President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan to reinstate recently dismissed Minister of Transport Dr Ahmed Shamheed.

In a press conference held at VTV, JP Parliamentary Group member and Feydhoo constituency MP Alhan Fahmy said that the JP has requested the President to reinstate Dr Jamsheed as the Minister of Transport before next Sunday. He said that the party might have to reconsider remaining in the government coalition of the President does not reinstate Dr. Shamheed.

Alhan said that the JP made this decision after the meeting of JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim with President Dr Waheed last night regarding the issue. He said that it was observed from the meeting that the President was not informed fully of the situation surrounding the issue of Dr. Shamheed.

In response to government stating that the post of the Transport Minister is still reserved for the Jumhooree Party, the party stated that Dr. Shamheed is the most suitable candidate for the post and the JP will not consider any other candidate without the government clarifying the reason for the dismissal of Dr. Shamheed.

Alhan said that Jumhooree Party believes that Dr. Shamheed was dismissed without any right and he should be reinstated to carry out his responsibilities. He said that the party decided to request the President to reinstate Dr. Shamheed after considering all the processes regarding the issue.
