Majlis votes to reject 02 declarations


Peoples’ Majlis has yesterday rejected a declaration submitted by Mohamed Rasheed, MP, for Machangolhi-South calling for an independent investigation into alleged human rights violations during the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

MPs have also voted to reject a declaration by Ahmed Mahloof, MP, for Galholhu-South to remove allowances received for committee work, pursuant to Article 142 of the Standing Orders.

Amendments to the Employment Act (Act No. 2/2008) was presented to the Majlis floor by Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, MP, for Fuahmulah-South and Chair of the Social Affairs Committee. 09 MPs spoke on the issue today.

Debate was continued on the Amendments proposed to Bill No. 75/4 (Prohibited Items Act), tabled by Nazim Rashad, MP, for Thulaadhoo.

The First Reading of the ‘Bill to Stop Corruption 2012’, tabled by Mohamed Nasheed, MP, for Kulhudhuffushi-South was also held.

Yesterday’s Sitting was adjourned due to a loss of quorum at 14:10 pm.
