Majlis accepts call for dissemination of fishermen subsidies from the 2012 State Budget

Peoples’ Majlis has accepted declaration calling for dissemination of subsidies allocated to fishermen from a 100 million Rufiyaa from the 2012 State Budget.

At yesterday’s Sitting of the Majlis, a declaration tabled by Mohamed Rasheed, MP, for South Machangolhi which called for dissemination of subsidies allocated to fishermen from a 100 million Rufiyaa from the 2012 State Budget was forwarded for review to the Committee on Economic Affairs. The proposal for the declaration to be forwarded to the ad-hoc committee received a vote of 37 in favor, 0 against and 05 abstentions.

Debate was held on the “Bill on Amendments to Former Presidents’ Immunity and Privileges Act (Act No. 9/2009) tabled by Riyaz Rasheed, MP, for Vilufushi constituency. The Bill stipulates amendments to the 2009 law on former President’s benefits, specifying circumstances where State benefits could be denied to ex-Presidents.

Pursuant to Article 142 of the Standing Orders, a declaration was tabled by Ahmed Mahloof, MP, for Galholhu-Uthuru, calling to expedite legislative duties by the People’s Majlis in order to make the justice system efficient and functional was in progress when today’s Sitting was adjourned due to a loss of quorum.
