President inaugurates the ‘November 3rd’ book


President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has launched the book ‘November 3rd’ on the occasion of the Victory Day.  

The book is about the attempted coup d’état by a handful of Maldivian assisted by armed mercenaries of People’s Liberation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) on the 3rd November 1988. The book was launched at the ceremony held to unveil the ‘Novermber 3rd Memorial’.

The book is meant to honor the martyrs of November 3rd and to portray the actions of valor by the soldiers in confronting the adversaries and the greatsacrifices they made for the nation. The book will also describe the plans made by the mercenaries and the events of that day to clarify and depict the incident.

The book which has been brought to life after numerous researches which included, going through the 450 peoples account of that day and the write up of their actions by the soldiers, all material which were gathered by the November 3rd Investigation Committee and the book ‘November 3rd Udhuvaanee Hamalaa’ released by the Office of the President.

The book also includes a never before released image of one of the martyr’s which has been achieved with the help of forensic art and information by the family members. Also drawings of various scenes which depict the area have been published in the book.

This book will be an invaluable resource to students and persons who wish to further research the November 3rd incident.
