Motion of no confidence against President annulled in the Majlis- Abbas

Press Secretary Abbas Adil Riza has said that the motion of no confidence against President Dr. Mohamed Waheed submitted by the MPs of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been annulled in the Wednesday’s meeting of the Peoples’Majlis.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Abbas said that he believes that this motion of no confidence submitted against the President is now annulled since one of the main reasons shown by the MPs of the MDP in submitting the no confidence motion against the President is the falsified reports of seeking Parliamentary approval for an MRF 300 million loan from Bank of Maldives (BML), and this was rejected by the Majlis.

Abbas said that there is no plausible reason to submit a motion of no confidence against the President.

“The reports on MRF 300 million loan from Bank of Maldives has been falsified. The report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) has falsified the allegations that the power was transferred through a coup. The Majlis has accepted the legitimacy of the government of President Dr Waheed. So what is the reason for this motion of no confidence?,” he said.

Abbas said that the people believe and accept the fact the current government is more attuned to the needs of the public and is way ahead in serving the people than the former government.

“This is not something I say. The Peoples see the deterioration of the membership of MDP after the transfer of power. Many are leaving MDP and joining other parties,” he said.

Abbas noted that MDP has been losing every election. He said that this is evidence enough that MDP has lost its popularity.
