No one should obstruct the Islamic Ministry
from implementing its mandate- Minister Shaheem
Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that the workshops held in the islands to promote religious awareness is carried out under the mandate of the Ministry and no one should obstruct the ministry from implementing its mandate.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Shaheem said the no program of the Ministry is held to achieve any political agenda or to cause strife and discord among the people. He added that the religious lecture programs and workshops organized under the Ministry are to foster the correct knowledge of Islam.
Sheikh Shaheem said that it is noted that most of the obstruction on the Islamic workshops are from the councilors affiliated with the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He said that this issue will be raised to the local government authority.
Meanwhile, many people have been condemning the local government authority for not taking any action against the councilors who take party in these obstructions to the religious lectures organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Recently activists of MDP have obstructed many sermons of Islamic scholars held in the Male’ City and in the islands. Last Friday night the President of the religious scholars’ committee of the Adhaalat Party, Sheikh Ilyas Hussain was harassed and slandered by MDP activists who gathered near Furqan Mosque while he was giving a religious lecture. The angry mob threw stones at the mosque and caused unrest.
