India Contributes to SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre in Maldives.
Indian High Commission has disbursed an amount of US$ 31, 526. 68, towards the second part of India’s annual contribution to SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre, Male, for the year 2012. The cheque for the contribution was handed over this morning by H.E. Mr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, the High Commissioner of India, during a call on meeting with H.E. Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, the newly-appointed Minister of Environment and Energy. While receiving the contribution, H.E. Dr. Shakeela thanked the Government of India and the Indian High Commission in Maldives for India’s contribution for the development and management of the Center.
The SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre (SCZMC) is a focal institution under the aegis of SAARC, promoting regional cooperation in planning, management and sustainable development of the coastal zones, including research, training and promotion of awareness in the region. India, Maldives, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the five SAARC nations having coast lines, represent the coastal zone. The other three SAARC nations Nepal, Afghanistan and Bhutan are land-locked countries.
India has been providing major assistance for the centre and has so far provided US$1million and US$ 142,318. 40 to the centre, in addition to the latest assistance.
