Nasheed proposes a member for the Inquiry Commission
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has proposed a member for the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) which has been mandated to look into the events that lead to the transfer of power on 7 February.
Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Spokesperson, Imthiyaz Fahmy said that Nasheed has proposed a member to the commission who fits the criteria set by the commission. However, Imthiyaz did not reveal the name of the member proposed by the former President.
Imthiyaz said that the name will be revealed by the commission and that the representative proposed by Nasheed is not a politician.
Meanwhile, the commission rejected names proposed by the MDP earlier because they did not fit the criteria set by the commission.
Nasheed recently expressed his full confidence in the recently agreed work of the Commission of National Inquiry.
Speaking to the press on the 100th day since the transfer of power, Nasheed said the work of the new Commission would start on 1 June and finish by end of July this year. He said the newly agreed TOR authorises the Commission to look into phone call history, bank account statements and where appropriate and based on the findings of the Commission, to send cases to be prosecuted.
