Maldivian Students Participate in “United Colours” South Asian Art Camp in India


For the first time, three student-artists, along with a guide teacher from Maldives are travelling to India to participate in an Art Camp, “Cultural Confluence – United Colours”.  This prestigious Art Camp, with participation from all South Asian countries, is being held in New Delhi, India, from May 25-31, 2012 and is organised by Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Indian NGO “Empowerment”. The entire expenses for their participation including air tickets, accommodation and transportation is being borne by the ICCR.

 

The participating students, Hassan Raaif Siraj from Jamaluddin School, Ahmed Aiham Ismail from Thajjudheen School, and Ms. Aminath Rooba Ali from  Amineeya School, and the guide Ms. Nadeefa Mohamed, teacher  from Iskandhar School met Indian High Commissioner, HE Mr. D. M. Mulay on 23rd May afternoon. The students were accompanied by their parents and well known artist and General Secretary of United Artists of Maldives (UAM), Mr. Ahmed Suveyb. High Commissioner Mr. Mulay congratulated the students for their participation and reaffirmed the commitment of continued support from the High Commission and Government of India in all field of art and culture in Maldives.

 

Indian High Commission in Maldives has held several cultural events, including on painting and art recently.  During last one year, the High Commission has organised the South Asian Painting Exhibition “Puducherry Blue” in Male’ and in Addu; Islamic Art Exhibition in Male’; and  a 10-days’ long India-Maldives Art Camp in Addu, jointly with United Artists of Maldives (UAM), with the participation of 6 Indian and 10 Maldivian artists. Several other art exchange programmes are being planned by the High Commission shortly.
