No plausible reason for Commonwealth to take action against
Maldives- President
President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that there is no plausible reason for the Commonwealth to take action against Maldives.
He said this meeting with the local media and answering a query raised by Miadhu Daily on his arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport yesterday evening.
“Now there is no plausible reason for the Commonwealth to take any action against Maldives. A co-chair has been appointed who is approved by the Commonwealth. A retired judge from Singapore. So this condition of the Commonwealth has been met,” he said.
The President said that the government has invited the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to propose an appointee from their side for the inquiry commission.
“However up until now they have been doing nothing but street protests calling us with different names. So how is it possible to include such a people to the Commission? The government appointed members the commission under a set procedure. So they should propose such members to be included in the commission,” he said.
President Waheed also briefed the media on the accomplishments of this visit. The President noted that this was indeed a very productive visit, and that Indian leaders were now clear on the current political and economical state of the Maldives.
