The world knows that there was no coup- Abbas
President Office’s Spokesperson Abbas Adhil Riza has said that it is clear to the world that there was no coup in the Maldives on February 7.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Abbas said that if a country doubts the legitimacy of the current government then that country will not accept Maldives. He said that the entire world has accepted the new government of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.
Abbas said that last night at Usfasgandu rally MDP MP Shifaz lied upon America claiming that they issued a statement against the legitimacy of the government of President Dr. Waheed. He said that Shifaz was trying to throw doubts regarding the legitimacy of the government by making up stories. He said this is a very desperate attempt of the MDP to gather people in their rally.
“The people are well aware of the stand of America. Not once did they say that the current government came into power through a coup. If so then why did they accept the government so quickly?,” he said.
Abbas said that those who make such false accusations very well know that there was no coup. “It is MDP alone who are making these blatant lies. They are doing that in their desperation. They want only MDP in power regardless of how they govern the country. When they are in power the anti religious people gets a lot of advantage. This is very clear from the front lines of their rallies,” he added.
Abbas also said that the government is committed to assist and cooperate with the Commonwealth. But this will be done within the boundaries of the constitution.
