MDP President Dr. Didi meets President Dr Waheed
The elected President of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Dr. Ibrahim Didi has called upon President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik. The meeting was held yesterday morning at the President’s Office.
The meeting was held after a press conference held at the President’s Office. After the meeting which lasted for one and half hours, Dr. Didi told the media that he met the President at the request of the President.
Dr. Didi said that the discussions between the President were main only on three issues. He said that they are: resolving the current political turbulence in the country; strengthening the role of the national inquiry commission and earning the trust of the people on the commission; and regarding the difficulties in continuing the All-Party Talks with the recent removal of the leaders of the MDP by its national council.
Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen also participated in the meeting.
Dr. Didi praised the protest held by the elected Vice President of MDP, Alhan Fahmy calling for reform of MDP. He said that it is time to strive hard to free MDP from the clutches of dictators and the party should never be left at the hands of these dictators.
Dr. Didi noted that the members of MDP are much larger than those who go to the Usfasgandu everyday but that there are thousands of members in the islands. He said that they all have rights.
He said that some supporters of the former President Mohamed Nasheed confronted the protestors and tried to obstruct them. He said that this shows that there is no democracy within MDP now.
