Decisions on the internal affairs of Maldives will be made by
the people: President
President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the decisions related to the internal affairs of Maldives will be taken after consulting the people and in accordance to what the people want regardless of the statements of any foreign country or organization.
The President made this remark speaking at the ceremony held at the junction near BuruzuMagu and KoarukendiMagu to celebrate the strong support and endorsement of the Peoples’ Majlis to the government by approving the Vice President and the Cabinet appointed by the President.
President Dr. Waheed said that he will be steadfast in fulfilling his responsibilities given to him by the people. He assured the people that he will not stray away from it regardless of the many challenges he has to face.
“I will not give in to the pressures. The best interest of the nation and the people will precede everything. I will not succumb to foreign interferences,” he said.
The President said that the current government is accepted by the international community. He also added that the government consists of a coalition of major political parties.
“The only people who reject us is an ignorant political party with no elected leadership,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Majlislast week approved the Vice President WaheedDeen and Cabinet Ministers proposed by President DrWaheed. The vote was unanimous of those present and voting which included 46 members representing all the parties in Majlis. Whilst, MDP walked out of the session, 1 MDP Mp remained in the chamber.
