Aasandha scheme to be ceased in private hospitals

Finance Committee of the Peoples’ Majlis has decided to cease universal health insurance scheme – Aasandhafrom private hospitals because the budget allocated for the scheme is not sufficient to cover its expenses.

The report of the Finance Committee stated that Aasandha health scheme will be available in government hospitals and health centers even if it is ceased in private hospitals and clinics. It also said that all members of the Majlis for which the Majlis sets their salaries should be exempted from the scheme.

Moreover, the Finance Committee said that they will be requesting the Auditor General to investigate any corruption involved in the service during the first three months of this year and to report it within a period of one month.

The Committee’s report further suggested that patients should only be served in the IMDC Hospital in Addu City and ADK in Male’ City only after a written approval of a doctor requesting such services.

Meanwhile, despite the suggestion of the Fincance Committee to cease the universal health scheme, fourty percentage of the people who are using the health service go to ADK.

Many have been very vocal criticizing these suggestions of the Committee claiming that they have to be in line for such a long time.
