Progress of Government of India funded Technology Project in
Maldives
The regular meeting of the Steering Committee to review the progress of the Government of India funded US $ 5.30 million Technology Adoption Project in Maldives was held this week at the Ministry of Education. At the meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister of Education Hon Dr. Asim Ahmed, current status of the project and discussion on further improvement of the project was held. Other dignitaries present at the meeting included Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Mohamed Asif, Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Azleen Ahmed, Director General(CCE) Mr. Adam Shareef, Director General(Education) Ms. Mariyam Noordeen, Director General(Education) Ms. Fathimath Amira and executives of the implementing agencies. Government of India was represented by Mr. P S Karthigeyan, First Secretary, High Commission of India in Malé.
This grant aid project from the Government of India to the Government of Maldives was launched on 15 June 2011 by former President His Excellency Mohamed Nasheed in the presence of High Commissioner of India, Mr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay. The project aims to reach 2880 teacher certifications in the area of IT, 1600 youth certifications in IT and 800 certifications in ICT related vocational courses.
The training under this project is currently underway in 7 centres across Maldives - (i) for Teachers in 4 Teacher Training Centres, namely Meedhoo, G. Laamu, Thinadhoo, Kulhudhufushi; and (ii) for Youths in 3 Youth Training Centres, namely Fuvahmulakh, Dhidhdhoo and Alifushi. As of February 2012 803 teachers and youths have completed the course. All the participants of the training programme have been highly appreciative of the course, which is aimed at education capacity building to promote technology adoption in Republic of Maldives.
