People should know the role of the Judiciary- CJ

Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz has said that the people should be made aware of the role of the judiciary under the constitution.

In a training program for journalists organized by the Department of Judicial Administration, Chief Justice Faiz said that some of the people have been misinformed of the responsibilities of the judiciary and its role.

Faiz noted that the primary responsibility of the judiciary is to interpret and apply the laws, and ensure their constitutionality.

The Chief Justice said that it is not the role of the judiciary to execute the verdicts issued by the courts of law. He added that some of the media have been misleading the public by showing pictures of the courts of law when broadcasting reports on executing of court verdicts.

He said that such misleading news regarding the judiciary has been resulting in the people maligning the judiciary and judges regarding issues that is not from the mandate of the judiciary.

Faiz said that the judiciary is the third branch of the government and its role is to defend and uphold the Constitution and assure the rule of law prevails.
