I decided to contest in Presidential elections with the intention of bringing social and economical stability- Gasim

Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader Gasim Ibrahim has said that he decided to contest in the next presidential elections of the Maldives to bring social and economical stability to the country.

Speaking at the ceremony held to celebrate the joining of new members to the party, Gasim Ibrahim said that the country can thrive in development only by bringing major economical changes and by establishing social justice.

Gasim said that he is contesting to become the President of Maldives to bring peace and sustainability to the society. He said that his main focus will be on brining social justice and economical stability to the country.

The newly appointed President of the Jumhooree Party, Dr. Ibrahim Didi noted that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured only 25,000 votes in the 2008 Presidential Elections when they have campaigned and worked for it for years.

“However, Gasim Ibrahim, secured more than 17,000 votes in less than one and half months. This is a big success in contrast to the 25,000 votes MDP got after years of work,” he said.

“During that time, Gasim decided to contest all of a sudden without much people to assist him in planning out the campaign and such. However, now we have a team of professional politicians with Gasim today. In addition to this we have time too. So we are working on it under a well organized plan,” he said.

Dr. Didi said that he does not doubt that “Gasim will win the 2013 election even in the first round, Allah willing. “
