Muslim World League calls Arab and Muslims countries to assist Maldives

Muslim World League (MWL) has called the Arab and Muslim countries to assist Maldives.

According to a statement of the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom the Muslim World League called the Arab and Muslim countries to assist and support Maldives at the concluding ceremony of the 41st session of the Constituent Council of the Muslim World League .

Meanwhile, during the 41^st session of the organization, former President Gayoom called the Arab and Muslim countries to develop the country’s education sector and other services and to protect the faith of the Maldivian people from the groups who are trying to weaken it.

Gayoom said that cooperation from Arab and Muslim countries would be vital to fight political and economic challenges currently facing the country. The former president said that the present economic downturn, a loss of peace and order in the country and efforts “by groups of people to weaken people’s Islamic faith”, were among the most pressing challenges presently facing the Maldives.

Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh, who is also president of the council, opened the MWL council session on Saturday. The meeting discussed major international Muslim issues, such asPalestine, the status ofJerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque, position of the Islamic Shariah in Muslim communities, problems facing Muslim minorities, in addition to developments inSyria,Lebanon,Iraq,Yemen,Myanmar,AfghanistanandSomalia. It is noteworthy that MWL, one of the largest non-governmental Islamic organizations in the world, was founded at a constituent meeting, held in Makkah in 1962 and attended by the renowned Islamic scholars and religious leaders from 22 countries.
