Law enforcement agencies haven’t been provided with proper means to tackle crime- Gasim

Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has said that the law enforcement agencies and state institutions have not been provided with proper means to tackle crime.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Gasim said that looking into the past 20 years it is revealed that the law enforcement agencies and the state institutions have not been efficiently developed in contrast to the increase in population in the country.

Gasim noted that the Police have not been granted enough means to implement measures to prevent crime and to efficiently seize and arrest serious offenders according to the green constitution.

Gasim said that the police are faced with many challenges because they do not have enough equipment necessary for thorough investigations since the investigations are now evidence based.

“In the same instance I would like to note that that the courts of law lack enough office space and administrative staff. The Prosecutor General’s Office is also facing this same problem. So to criticize these institutions without granting them these means, then such criticisms are futile and of no benefit,” he said.

Gasim said that many prisoners who have been sentenced to jail have not been taken to custody because of the lack of space in jails and this is a big concern of the DPRS. He added that those who were given the ‘second chance’ are forced to participate in criminal activities for political motives are also a matter of grave concern.
