Nasheed is responsible for the souls lost in gang related crimes- Home Minister

Home Minister Dr. Mohamed Jameel has said that the former President Mohamed Nasheed is responsible for the souls lost in gang related crimes.

Minister Dr. Jameel said that the crime has escalated to concerned levels and the people are now living in fear. He said that this is the result of the irresponsible policies of the former President Nasheed during his administration.

The Minister said that Nasheed released all kinds of dangerous criminals and he worked in favour of these criminals.

He said that there are criminals who have been sentenced repeatedly and now their sentence period extents to more than 100 years. He said this is a matter of grave concern. He assured that these criminals will be put behind bars.

Meanwhile, Minister Jameel recently said that a range of initiatives is underway across government to seek professional foreign help to tackle the increase in crime.

He said that it is important to introduce streamlined procedures and better case management for all criminal proceedings.

Furthermore, the Minister underscored the importance of swift administration of justice so that every person accused of breaking the law has the matter resolved without delay. He also said that it is important that the punishment is proportionate to the seriousness and persistence of the offence.
