All demands of 23 Dec Coalition have been fulfilled except
one: Coalition
President of the 23 December Coalition, Sheikh Mohamed Didi has said that all the demands of the coalition except one demand have been fulfilled.
In a press conference organized by the 23 December Coalition held at Nalayhiya Hotel yesterday, Sheikh Mohamed Didi said that only demand of the coalition unfulfilled by the current government is the demand to stop declaring parts of inhabited islands into uninhabited islands in order to sell liquour.
“Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government declared some parts of inhabited islands, namely parts of Addu City and Fuvahmulah, as uninhabited islands to spread liquor among the people. To annul this declaration is the only demand of the 23 December coalition unfulfilled by the present government,” he said.
During the press conference the coalition stated that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) failed in their work to cause friction between the government of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed and the Commonwealth. They said that the President Dr. Waheed’s visit to the UK at the invitation of the UK government proves the failure of the MDP.
“The claims that the government will be compelled to hold early elections has now been proved wrong. In fact, Maldives will not be removed from the Commonwealth. Nor will there be any sanctions from the Commonwealth against Maldives,” Shareef said.
