Government cannot oppose Islam and Maldivian constitution- President

Government has revealed that the President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has already requested the foreign ministry to inform the United Nations Human Rights Council that the government cannot do anything against Islam and the Maldivian constitution. This was revealed to the media by Press Secretary Abbas Adil Riza.

Abbas Adil Riza said that the UN Human Rights Commision’s report which expressed their concern over the restrictions of some matters such as freedom of other religions in the Maldives and other such forbidden matters in Islam was issued because of the deceitfulness of the former regime. He said that the report is an exposure of the crime of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s government against Islam.

Reiterating that the MDP government has committed many crimes against Islam, Abbas said that the government has full assurance that the UN will not interfere with the issues related to religion of the people of Maldives when the government clears and clarifies the web of deceit spun by Nasheed’s government.

Abbas said that Nasheed’s government has spent a lot from the state and deceived the international community under the guise of investigating the human rights abuse of the 30 year rule of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s government.

Abbas said that UN raised concern claiming that there is no freedom of other religions because MDP was pushing them by misinforming the organisation with false information.

Abbas stressed that every nation has a constitution and no organisation can interfere with the constitutional rule of a country.
