AG warns to take action against Broadcasting Commission and EC

-Legal action will be taken to dismantle MDP rallies at Usfasgandu


Attorney General Aishath Azima Shukoor has warned to take legal action against the Maldives Broadcasting Commission and the Elections Commission.

In an interview to “Raajje Miadhu” TV program, State Attorney General Azima Shukoor said legal action will be taken against the Maldives Broadcasting Commission for not taking any steps to ban a certain channel from inciting violence against law enforcement officers of Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). She said that legal action is to be taken against the Elections Commission for being irresponsible as the parental institution of the political parties while Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is encouraging the people to attack the Police and MNDF officers in their protests and rallies openly.

Azima said that it is a crime to incite violence against any person regardless whether it is coming from a prominent political party. And it is very irresponsible of the Broadcasting Commission to let a media channel to broadcast hatred and instigate violence.

Azima said that the matter will be submitted in the Peoples’ Majlis requesting the Majlis to take action against the Elections Commission for ignoring the calls of violence in the protests and rallies of MDP.

In addition to this Azima also said that legal action will be taken to dismantle the MDP rallies held at Male’ Usfasgandu.
