JP doesn’t believe in making discriminations in distributing Ramadan allowance- Dr. Didi

President of the Jumhooree Party (JP), Dr. Ibrahim Didi has said that the party does not believe that there should be any discrimination among the staff when giving Ramadan allowance.

Dr. Didi made this remark speaking at the pre-Ramadan dinner held at the Artificial Beach by the Jumhooree Party. He said that fasting in the month of Ramadan is an act of worship obligated upon every Muslim and there is no distinction in reference to his or her post.

Dr. Didi said that there should be no discrimination among the employees in distributing the Ramadan allowance. He noted that according to the law if one third of the employee’s salary is less than MRF 2,000 the respective employee must be afforded an allowance of MRF 2,000 and if the salary of the employee is greater than that the respected employee will be given an allowance greater than MRF 2,000. He said that despite this, Jumhooree Party does not believe that this is just and fair when distributing an allowance given in respect to an obligation upon every Muslim. He said that the party will try to amend this Act through the members of the Peoples’ Majlis from the party.

Moreover, Dr. Didi announced that this issue was included when the manifesto of the party was compiled.

Meanwhile, some low paid employees have been raising concern over the issue of employees with big salaries getting more money as Ramadan allowance than them. They say that MRF 2,000 is a not enough as an allowance for Ramadan when the prices of the commodities and services in the country are hiking.

Some employees also complain that their respective authorities do not give them the Ramadan allowance on the claims that they work as contractors.

Dr. Didi said that Jumhooree Party will give a special importance on raising Islamic awareness in the country in the month of Ramadan. He said that the party will organize religious lectures and Islamic programs in this regard.
