Nasheed and Talhath prosecuted                        

The Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office has submitted the case of the former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Defence Minister Talhath Ibrahim, for unlawfully detaining Chief Judge of the Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed, to the court for prosecution.

According to the PG’s Office the case was forwarded for prosecution to the Hulhumale’ Court.

PG’s Office stated that the former Chief of Defence Force Moosa Ali Jaleel, Colonel Mohamed Ziyad and Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Didi will also be prosecuted for their involvement of the illegal detainment of Chief Judge Abdullah.

The statement of the PG’s Office revealed that they are persecuted for violating Article 81 of the Penal Code which states that the use of authority by a public servant to detain an innocent person is a criminal offence.

Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Abdullah Mohamed was arrested on January 16, 2012, while at home by soldiers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). The government refused to release him and produce him in court despite the calls to do so.
