Murder is not the only danger faced by our society- Azima Shukoor

Attorney General Azima Shukoor has stressed that murder is not the only danger that is threatening the well being of our society.

AG Azima said that moral degeneration is also among the most harmful social problem faced by the society. She said that there are issues in our country that is of grave concern. She added that these issues have now become the norm and only a few are raising their concern over such matters.

“Where is the talk about our morality? Do we see it today? Today snatching a necklace from a child is something that has become a norm in our streets. It is something ordinary today. Something that happens every now and then. And some will say ‘Why don’t you just don’t put that necklace on little children?’. These issues, these problems, these wounds cannot be healed, cannot be resolves within two three months. This is something larger than that,” she said.

Azima said that laws can be passes and criminals can be sent back to prison. She said that the economy can also be recovered but it will much more difficult to recover the moral degeneration in our society.

“How many generations are we talking about? When our little children know to say something towards a politician who pass by them on the streets, is this one of the damages on our ownselves? Is it us that is harmed by it or is it the future of our children that is harmed? Who will take this responsibility? How many generations will be destroyed in this mess?,” she said.

Azima said that the government alone cannot lower the crime rate but rather the government needs the cooperation of all.

“How many years have passed with the penal code still in Peoples’ Majlis? When there is no penalty upon a crime under the penal code then how can we accuse the responsibility upon a certain people? If a law is procrastinated for six years then who are to be blamed?,” she queried.
