No more opportunity for the Govt to undermine Constitution and Judiciary – Imran

Sheikh Imran Abdulla, President of the Adhaalath Party has said that opposition will give no more opportunity for the Government to undermine the constitution, judiciary and fundamental freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution.

Speaking outside the Justice Building, after representing the seven demonstrators who was brought to Court to extend their detention after previous nights demonstration, Sheikh Imran also said that that Government sees that even the Maldivian people is not in the mood for further violation of rights and any further undermining Constitution and rule of law.

Sheikh Imran also pledged that Opposition will not rest until Government refrains from such actions and until fundamental freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution are provided without any restriction.

“Violating the laws, undermining Constitution, restricting fundamental freedoms and basic rights, has no place now. Government will not have that opportunity any further and Government very clearly gets that picture. To maintain the independence of judiciary, peace and security, we assure you that we will do all we have to do. Even tonight you should be out with us demonstrating. This campaign will go as planned, within the legal boundaries. Until Maldivians get their rights back” he said.

He also stated that Court order to release the 7 demonstrators clearly states that there is no place for dictatorship in the 21st century and in the Maldives either.
