VP makes three propositions to resolve the current political crisis

At a press conference held yesterday, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has made three propositions to resolve the current political crisis.

The three propositions made by the Vice President to resolve the current political crisis are: Bring an immediate end to the ongoing unrests in Male’ led by opposition parties; Release Judge Abdullah Mohamed and JSC should fulfil its responsibilities.

The Vice President called on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to prevent Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed sitting on the bench until all complaints against him are resolved.

He called on JSC to speed up the investigation of all complaints against the Judge. He added the JSC was capable to address the issue.

The Vice President urged all parties to resort to dialogue and cooperation.

In view of this earlier comments made on his personal blog regarding the arrest of Judge Abdulla by the military, Dr Waheed said that he only expressed his sincere and impartial views. He said that he had discussed his views on the matter with the President

Dr. Waheed also expressed his apologies for those who have been disappointed by his views.

In an article in his blog on the arrest of the Chief Judge, Vice-President said that Criminal Court’s Chief Judge’s arrest by the security forces threatens a very fundamental right guaranteed in a democratic nation – freedom from fear.

He highlighted that Constitution itself do not allow such arrest and the action by the government is risking the hard-won democratic progress of the Nation. He also stated that his position on the issue is very clear, but is “ashamed” of the fact that these actions are being committed by a Government which he serves as its Vice-President.
