Those who cannot bear criticism should stay at home: Sheikh Imran

President of the opposition Adhaalath Party (Justice Party), Sheikh Imran Abdullah has said that those officials in the government who cannot bear objective criticism and freedom of speech should resign and stay in their homes.

Sheikh Imran said that the people will come out to the streets and criticize the government if the government fails to fulfill their needs and opposes the constitution. He said that the criticism will be much more intensified if the government threatens the Islamic Unity of the country. He said that the people will not tolerate this behavior.

“This is not mere useless chatter. We are speaking against the government because they have violated the rights of the people. Rather they are continuing to violate our rights. The government is threatening the state religion. There is no way that rectification can be brought except by criticizing the government. Today we are obliged to voice out against the government. If the government is democratic, they should listen to the pleas of the people. They should give the people their due rights,” he said.

Sheikh Imran said that Maldives is now in a very appalling state. He said the people are now frustrated. He said that the people voted for the current government for a change. And that the change seen today is not the change that the people wanted and hoped for.

“The people are in a state of confusion and doubt. The actions of the government have gone out of bounds. The government does not consider the constitution. The government is shamelessly attacking the people for their hard work to save the country from the current sad state it is today,” he said.

Sheikh Imran underscored the importance of unity to save the country. He said that success lies only in the people disregarding their differences and uniting upon the truth. He urged the people to work together to save the people from the clutches of the current government.
