The government will sustain the Agreement with GMR- Ahmed Mohamed


Minister of economic development Mr. Ahmed Mohamed said that the government will sustain the agreement they had with the Indian Company GMR in order to develop the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.

During the press conference held last night at the Presidents office, answering a question asked by a news reporter Ahmed Mohamed said that if the foreign investment policy is changed every five years or it changes whenever the government changes, the foreign inverstors will get afraid to invest in Maldives.

Ahmed Mohamed said “ then the trust investors have for Maldives will be lost. Also investors will hold up investing in Maldives. The government will research the agreement and find the problems that will make loss for the government and try to solve it through discussing with GMR.

Due to the change in leadership of the country on the 7th of this month many people have been questioning about GMR. In related to this he president had clarified twice while answering the questions that were asked to the president Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik also said that the government will sustain the contract the government had with GMR and will only solve the problems that are in the agreement.

 The news reporters are having questions about the GMR company because the progressive party of Maldives ( PPM) has been making statements saying  that after the government changes within 24 hours they will avoid the contract and will make GMR to leave Maldives. Due to sayings like this GMR has been confronted with some trouble.
