President meets UN Assistant Secretary General 


President Dr Mohamed Waheed has yesterday morning met with Assistant Secretary General at United Nations, Oscar Fernandez-Taranco.

At the meeting held at Hilaaleege, the President briefed the Assistant Secretary General on the measures being taken to find peaceful and amicable solutions in tackling the political conflicts faced in the Maldives. The President also said that his most important responsibility was to deliver a peaceful and harmonious environment to the people, by safeguarding the constitution and the rule of law in the country.

President Waheed also welcomed the UN’s suggestions and recommendations in the reform process.

Also President Dr Mohamed Waheed has yesterday morning met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake.

During the meeting held at Hilaaleege, the President briefed Mr Blake on the measures being taken to find a peaceful solution in resolving the current political problems in the country. The President also said that his top priority was to restore peace and order in the country.

Also President Dr Mohamed Waheed has yesterday met with international media, and briefed them on the evolving political climate of the country.

At a press conference held at the President’s Office, the President said that his highest priority was to restore peace in the country, and to constitute a national unity government. He reiterated that MDP’s representation in the new leadership was welcome.

The President also took questions from the media regarding former President Nasheed’s resignation, and the unrest caused in Male’ and some islands recently.
