Govt to expand Aa sandha to cover Maldivians abroad

National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has revealed that efforts are underway to expand the services of Aa Sandha, the government health insurance programme, to cover the Maldivians living countries other than Sri Lanka and India, starting from next year.

According to NSPA, Aasandha is currently available in three hospitals in Sri Lanka and eight hospitals and the government is now working on to expand the health insurance programme to other hospitals in both the countries and also to other countries where Maldivians usually visit.

Miadhu Daily understands that delegates of the Health Ministry are now holding discussions in different countries to expand Aasandha health insurance scheme.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Mohamed Waheed also highlighted the efforts of the government to expand the health insurance programme to the expatriate community of Maldives earlier this year.

The President said that the Maldivian expatriate community will hopefully benefit from the government health scheme soon. He said that this cannot be done in this year because the budget allocated for the government health insurance programme this year can only cover the cost of the Maldivian people living currently in the Maldives.
