Political Parties bill was passed to dissolve Adhaalath Party- AP

Adhaalath Party (AP) has stated that the Peoples’ Majlis is now controlled by “the black money” of GMR and the political parties bill passed in the Majlis which stipulated that a political party should have a minimum of 10,000 members for registration was passed to eliminate Adhaalath Party.

Adhaalath Party made this remark at the press conference held by the party in response to the political parties bill passed by the Majlis.

President of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdullah said that the party believes that the sudden change of the minimum membership requirement to 10,000 after having it as 5000 in all of the phases of the political parties bill during its preparation in the majlis shows that it was hit back against the challenges faced by the members with the policies and the activities of the Adhaalath Party againt GMR and also in the calls to rectify the Majlis.

Sheikh Imran said that this is a huge political and legal challenge against the Adhaalath Party. He said that their agenda in passing the bill is to eliminate the party from existence.

“Adhaalath Party believes that the party is necessary to function to balance the political arena of the Maldives given the current political situation of the country. Adhaalath Party has been making huge efforts to protect and preserve the Islamic unity of the Maldives since its registration. We have been holding on to very firm stands in major national matters. Therefore, this challenge faced by the party now is a challenge against the future of Maldivian politics,” he said.

Sheikh Imran underscored the importance of more people joining the party to balance and neutralize the political situation of the Maldives.

“I urge all people who sincerely love Islam and the Maldivian nation to join Adhaalath Party and to stand firm against these challenges,” he said.
