Government doesn’t take any action against those responsible for the ill treatment of expatriates- India
Indian High Commission’s official in Maldives has said that the government of Maldives is not taking any action against those responsible for the ill treatment and harassment on some Indian expatriates.
Official made this remark in an interview to Miadhu Daily. In view of the recent tightening of the visa regulations to Maldivians, he said that these matters will be resolved when both governments hold mutual discussions to resolve the issues faced by the people of both the countries.
He said that officially 53 passports are accepted daily and in addition to that about 6 more passports are also accepted usually. And in case of medical emergencies the visas are being issued without causing any difficulty.
He said that discussions have been held with Maldivian Foreign Ministry several times to take action against the ill treatment of some expatriates by some people. He said that the Indian expatriate coming to work in the Maldives should not be badly treated because of the failure of the Maldivian sponsor to take responsibilities. He said that this is unacceptable.
“When these matters are resolved I believe all problems will be solved,” he said.
Former Malfivian Government has confirmed to Miadhu Daily that Indian diplomats visited Maldives in the beginning of this year to hold discussions with the Maldivian foreign ministry regarding these issues. However, no action has been taken by the government so far. And also the negotiations were done since the former government was established.
