Abbas says Majlis will not be given the opportunity to
challenge the constitution
State Minister of Finance and Treasury, Abbas Adil Riza has said that the Peoples’ Majlis will not be given the opportunity to challenge and oppose the constitution and law and work outside it.
Former Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Abbas made this remark at the Saturday night’s public rally of the National Alliance held at Artificial Beach area. He said that the people will never given anyone or any institution the opportunity to break the law and challenge it.
“In 2008 after the change of the government, the new administration was given a new constitution. A very perfect constitution. However in less than 8 hours of ascending to power, the then President appointed his own 8 members to the Majlis after breaking and challenging the constitution. They are spent loads of money from the state. The money of the people. The constitutional authority and power given to the atolls were taken and provinces were established. New notes of money were brought and saved in private safes. Religious scholars were intimidated and oppressed. All this were done by violating and breaking the constitution and law,” he said.
Abbas called the Peoples’ Majlis to immediately stop all of their work and efforts to disempower the constitution.
Noting that the Majlis has been doing nothing to protect the courts of law, Abbas said that Majlis ignored the ridiculous behavior showed by some MPs when they opened their own courts on the streets. He said that the Majlis even failed to issue a statement criticizing and condemning such actions of the MPs.
Abbas said that the decisions made by MPs in the Finance Committees and the Economic Committees who usurp the money of the people can never be accepted.
