Govt will Provide essential services- President

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan has said that the government will provide essential services such as essential public health services , and will not wait claiming that there is no one available to take responsibilities for it.

The President made this statement while speaking to the people of Dhaandhoo this evening. The President visited the island of Dhaandhoo as the last stop of his tour of the North Huvadhu Atoll.

“I just visited the island’s health centre. The situation of the health centre is appalling. There wasn’t a single maintenance done to the place in the past three years. Not a single damaged item has been repaired. The air conditioner of the laboratory has been broken. And it has one year since it has been broken. The people there say it’s the responsibility of a person in the regional hospital. I am sure that those at the regional hospital will say that the person responsible is the one in the health ministry,” he said.

The President said that the air-conditioner of a lab should not be broken and left like that without any repair for a year. He said that the government spends a lot on the health sector and it should cover these issues.

“The health budget is close to two billion ruffiya. Then why is that this air-condition was left unrepaired. I would say that the situation has reached this sad state because those who are responsible for this are not doing their work properly. Therefore, I will certainly look into these issues. I will make them do it within two months,” he said.
