Saddening that GMR is still misleading shareholders: Shameem
National Alliance has stated that it is saddening that GMR is spreading lies regarding the termination of the contract with them to lease Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.
Minister of State for Tourism, Ahmed Shameem, who is a leading figure of National Alliance said that no court of law will condemn the government for not following an agreement of the former government with GMR which was void ab initio. He said that he does not believe that any court of law will issue a verdict ordering the government to pay a compensation for GMR when the agreement was invalid from the outset.
“This is something any rational person would know. GMR is misleading the shareholders by changing the compensation that they expect every hour. First their demands started with about 700 million US dollars. Now they are demanding 1.1 billion Maldivian Ruffiya,” he said.
Shameem said that GMR can earn the trust of the shareholders when they stop their lies and exaggerations. He said that the Malaysian company acted very professionally.
“The actions of GMR are worrisome. They are misleading and deceiving. Perhaps the reason for this might be the money they have indirectly given to different parties. No matter how much they try to intimidate, the government will not take the responsibility of an investment which cannot be proven on paper. Maldives will only accept what can be seen on paper,” he said.
