MDP lose it’s weight again:

PPM wins Ungoofaaru bi-election


The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidate, brother of the late MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali, Ibrahim Ameen has won the Ungoofaaru constituency bi-election held yesterday contesting against opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate Dr. Ahmed Ashraf.

PPM Candidate Ameen won the election with a difference of 81 votes. Ameen secured 1159 votes while 1078 people voted in favour of Dr. Ashraf.

Ameen got 450 votes in his favour from the ballot boxes in Ungoofaaru while Dr. Ashraf secured 308 votes. There were 12 cancelled votes from the island. In Maakurathu, Ameen secured 250 votes while MDP’s Ashraf got 240 votes in his favour. There were 12 cancelled votes from Maakurathu too.

According to Hulhudhufaaru results, PPM’s Ameen got 329 votes in his favour while MDP’s Ashraf secured 368 votes. There were 9 cancelled votes from the island.

MDP’s candidate won the majority of the votes from the ballot boxes in Male’. Ashraf secured 162 votes while Ameen got 130 votes in his favour. According to Elections Commission there are 3221 eligible voters from that region.
