“BML is the main pillar of the development and economy of Maldives”
President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan has said that he will not politicize Bank of Maldives (BML). He said this at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge convention center last night to mark the 30th anniversary of Bank of Maldives.
The President said: “The people save the money they earn from their hard work in the Bank with high hopes. However in the recent period some people took loans from the Bank and did not pay them back. And because of this the Bank is facing many difficulties.”
President Dr Waheed added that these problems occur because institutes run professionally are being misused for political gain.
“The fruits of the efforts of the Bank to be relieved from these difficulties are now to be seen. And as a result the profits gained by the Bank has increased. As the national bank is a place where many of the people use to safeguard their wealth, then it should be a place they can trust,” he said.
The President said that the future of Bank of Maldives is very bright as it celebrates its 30thanniversary. He said that BML is the main pillar of the economy of Maldives and has served the nation in many fields. He said that the Bank plays a vital role in the resorts that have been developed in the country and also in the fishing vessels in the fisheries industry of Maldives. He said that the beautiful structures and buildings constructions that are witnessed today in Male’ and elsewhere in the country are all contributed by the services of BML.
President Dr Waheed expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders of the Bank and the employees for their hard work in playing a major role in building the Maldivian nation.
