Gasim calls not to sacrifice peace and stability of the country

Jumhooree Party Leader Gasim Ibrahim has called all people not to sacrifice the peace and stability of the country for the sake of a single individual.

Gasim Ibrahim said that all people should precede national interest over their own interests. He added that no one should take the statement of an individual over the welfare and interest of the country and the economy.

Gasim sand that he has received information that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is plotting terrorist activities following the release of the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) which includes attacks on him and his properties. He said that he has also received information that MDP is planning to attack the properties of Horizon Fisheries in Hodedhoo although they have not planned much activities in Thinadhoo.

“To attack like that is in fact an attack on the people. To damage the goods of Horizon Fisheries will not only be a loss for me rather it’s a loss for the people. It will be a violation of the rights of the people of Hodedhoo,” he said.

Gasim said that he is not worried about the plots schemed to attack him and his property but however he is concerned the loss that the people will suffer because of these terrorist attacks. He said that he is concerned that such an attack will badly affect the tourism industry and damage the economy of the country.

“I call all not to participate in any terrorist activities at the call of Nasheed. Those who partook in such acts earlier are now facing the justice. And all loss is on the people. Not only for the criminal or his family but rather on all of the people,” he said.

In view of the anticipated release of the report of CoNI, Gasim said that he is certain that the report won’t conclude that a coup was involved in the transfer of power.

“Certainly, I did not do anything that can be regarded as a coup. And I did not witness any one bringing a coup,” he said.

He said that Nasheed is trying to garner popularity for the upcoming elections by making the accusations of a coup.
