Gaha Saeed violated Commonwealth agreement- Government
The government has condemned the statements made by former President Mohamed Nasheed’s representative in the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the transfer of executive office on 7 February 2012, Gaha Ahmed Saeed that he is not satisfied with the report of CoNI which is to be released at the end of this month.
Spokesperson of the government, Abbas Adil Riza said that the statements of the former President Nasheed’s representative CoNI, Gaha Saeed is in opposition to the terms of the agreement made between the Commonwealth and the commission.
Abbas said that the government allowed the representative of the former President Nasheed to be appointed so as to compromise to the request of Nasheed. He said that likewise a representative of the Commonwealth was included in the commission at the request of the Commonwealth. He said that however, Nasheed could not wait until the release of the CoNI’s report.
Abbas stressed that these statements of Gaha Saeed which is in violation of the Commonwealth agreement clearly shows that Nasheed does not want the release of the reality of the circumstances surrounding the transfer of executive office on 7 February 2012.
The government spokesperson also noted that the representative of the former President Nasheed was included after Nasheed agreed to accept the report of the commission regardless of CoNI’s conclusion on the events of power transfer.
Abbas said that Nasheed is now trying to create unrest in the country by instigating and inciting violence ahead of the release of the report of the CoNI.
