Nasheed is concerned because CoNI’s report would expose him- Abbas

Spokesperson of the government Abbas Adil Riza has said that the former President Mohamed Nasheed is worried that he would be exposed to the whole world when the Commission of National Inquiry (CoNI) released their final report.

Abbas said that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) would not be given any opportunity to decide on the matter before the report of the Commission of National Inquiry established to make an independent and impartial investigation into developments in the Maldives from 14 January 2012 to 8 February 2012 and the reality of the events of February 7 which lead to the transfer of power.

Abbas said that Nasheed and his party members will not be given any opportunity to create disorder and unrest despite Nasheed’s incitement for violence in the streets by calling the MDP members to not return to their homes without “establishing justice”.

The spokesperson of the government noted that Nasheed is not a court of law or a Judge to decide on legal matters. He also said that Nasheed is not the prosecutor general or the Human Rights Commission. He said that there are independent institutions established to decide on such matters.
