Meeting of Majlis members representing Political Parties did not break any grounds

The meeting of the members of the Peoples’ Majlis representing their respective political parties held yesterday as requested by the Speaker of the Majlis Abdullah Shahid did not break any grounds.

According to the members of the parties supporting the current government accused the representative of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) of straying away from the scope of the meeting which is to find a way to resume the Majlis sessions. They noted that MDP’s representative only talked about how power should be transferred back to MDP, and about outcomes of the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI).

Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen met with members in the meeting on behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed who is in Mekkah. The meeting was held at the President’s Office yesterday morning.

The members who attended yesterday’s meeting are: Ali Waheed – Maldivian Democratic Party; Dr Abdulla Mausoom – Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party; Ali Arif – Progressive Party of Maldives; Gasim Ibrahim – Jumhooree Party; Moosa Zameer – People’s Alliance
and Riyaz Rasheed – Qawmee Party.

MP Riyaz Rasheed said that the MDP MP Ali Waheed’s submitted ridiculous proposals in the meeting. He said that Ali Waheed’s proposals were against the true aim of the meeting.

“We went to the talks for an early election date,” said Hamid Abdul Ghafoor, MDP’s international spokesperson as quoted by the Hindu. “We have submitted our proposals to the government. But some of the political party representatives thought the meeting was to reconvene Parliament,” he added.
