First Futsal arena established under “Unity Through Futsal” project inaugurated
The first futsal playground that was constructed at Hulhumale has been declared open. The playground named “HITACHI Futsal Arena” was declared open by the Vice President of the Maldives HE Mohamed Waheedhuddin.
Speaking at this ceremony the Vice President said that the “HITACHI Futsal Arena” is the first phase of the project “Unity Through Futsal” that is aimed at constructing seven futsal arenas. Highlighting the importance of youth for the development of a nation, he said that to boost the progress of the nation we need to build a valuable youth with patriotism. He also stressed that sports play a major role in character building and enhance self-confidence. “Therefore, this Futsal ground would be a precious one and those who play in this ground must display good manners and discipline in order to obtain good results from it”, said the Vice President.
Praising the active contribution of MNDF and Maldives Police Service in the construction of this arena within only two months period, the Vice President said that MNDF and Police personnel of this nation has proved that they are not only the security forces but also people who are attending to the needs of the citizens.
Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef also addressed the ceremony. He said that this is the first international futsal arena built in Maldives and it was constructed without any contribution from the government budget. He also praised the special contribution of the MNDF and Police to complete this ground within this short period of time.
This project named “Unity through Futsal” is coordinated by MNDF and Maldives Police Service. The technical assistance for this program is provided by FAM and materials are supplied by STO while the engineering of the project will be carried out by MNDF. MNDF and other parties signed the agreement to construct 7 Futsal playgrounds on 25th of March this year.
