Algerian philanthropist Mr. to grant more than MRF 3 million to mosque renovation fund

Djillali Mehri, an Algerian philanthropist has decided to grant more than MRF 3million to mosque renovation fund organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

Mehri informed the media of his decision after a meeting with the Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed yesterday.

Mehri said that he made the decision to make this donation because Maldives is a very close country to his heart and he is making the donation as a token to the people of Maldives.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Shaheem said that Mehri’s donation is 20 percent of the fund needed to establish the 10 storey building to maintain the mosques of Maldives. He said that because of this donation then they won’t need to use the money collected for the mosque renovation for the building.

He said that the building will cost a total of 16 million ruffiya. He said that earlier the Ministry decided to cover these costs from the mosque fund but now with Mehri’s donation the mosque fund will be solely used for the renovation of mosques.

Mehri told Miadhu Daily that he would hand over the donation once the bank process is completed. Sheikh Shaheem said that the Ministry is now holding discussions with the Maldives Islamic Bank on this.
